A Recap of the B&L SEPTA Case

On Thursday, September 4, 2025, B&L’s legal team — lead by George Bochetto — achieved a huge victory for the Citizens of Philadelphia.  Judge Thomas Street ruled that SEPTA must completely reverse the “Doomsday” service cuts that SEPTA first implemented on August 24, 2025.  These cuts, if allowed to proceed, would have had catastrophic consequences to people’s daily lives and the entire regional economy resulting in Billions of dollars in lost tax revenue and jobs!!  Judge Thomas Street’s Order ended all that, ordering SEPTA to “immediately” restore full service.

The case was filled with political intrigue, power plays by government officials, and even involved Philadelphia’s beloved Eagles opening game with SEPTA threatening to cut services to the Stadium for Eagles Fans (a move B&L stopped with its injunction).  It was, for sure, a wild and crazy ride, starting on August 24, when B&L first got involved, an emergency hearing and temporary injunction a few short days later on August 29, and finally victory after a full hearing on September 4.  The entire case unfolded not unlike an episode of Suits.  A full and well written recap of the case and issues was published by Big Trial’s Ralph Cipriano, which is fully available here.

Bochetto’s quote from Big Trial’s article summed it up perfectly:

“And why did Bochetto wind up doing a job that the mayor and city solicitor should have done?

‘Because George Bochetto cannot be bought,’ he said.  ‘Or paid for.  Or corrupted.  Or influenced.  Or disregarded.'”

Indeed.
